What If Kate Gosselin Had Another Baby?

What If Kate Gosselin Had Another Baby?

TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8 mom Kate Gosselin is a parent of 8 kids - one set of twins and sextuplets.  Can you even imagine your life going from having one child or two, then boom, you have eight?  Makes a uterus shudder doesn't it?  What would life be like if Kate had more children or didn't have the eight she has?

Kate spoke with ParentDish and talked about what life is like and how it's changed since becoming a mom of so many children.

Four years ago Kate and husband Jon had their lives change drastically - being parents of two to becoming parents of eight.

The family has a TV crew in their home each week and although they sometimes opt to not film something specific, we get to see what life is like in a typical day for them.  And none of it's scripted, planned or made-up.

Kate jokes, "We don't have time to memorize scripts."  I can believe that!

She added, "We set out to show the truth.  I couldn't watch it if it weren't true.  What you see, in every televised moment, is precisely what is happening - no stage directions or do-overs.  This is the life at the Gosselin house."

Kate has taken criticism for the way she treats her husband as the couple are often shown bickering.

She said, "Everyone has an opinion and I'm only paying attention to my own.  If Jon and I have three spats over a two day period, they're going to edit it to make it look like those happened in the 22 minute period."  The show is just a small sampling in the family's life, of course.

The busy mom's focus is not on what others think of her anyway - it's about her children.

Kate says her goal is to treat each child like an only child - and with eight that must be difficult!

"I hold myself to a very high standard," she says.  But she does not strive for "perfection."

She adds that being filmed for TV has changed her life but it hasn't changed who she is.  "It's hard to live through what we have lived through and not change.  We are the same - it's how people treat us."

Kate says the noise level can be deafening at times!  The older girls, Cara and Mady, come home from school and try to tell their mom how their day was but they're drowned out by the noise of the six little ones.  She sometimes longs for peace (like most of us moms do!) but that otherwise she wouldn't change anything.

And since the sextuplets are four now, they no longer nap - so that cuts out the chance for a break in a typical day.

"The sextuplets are four now and no one, naps any more.  But it's a rare night that the family gets through dinner without someone dozing off at the table."

With a full life, working, marriage and caring for a big family, Kate has three pieces of advice for parents.

"Every morning, before my feet hit the floor.  I pray for strength, just enough to get through that day."  She says to have a sense of humor - laugh, don't cry and lastly, but most importantly, "Always remember that bedtime comes, every single day."  Ha!
