Demaris Meyer, Morgan Freeman's passenger in an August car crash sued the 71-year-old actor for negligence and she's willing to clarify her name, after she was labeled as his mistress. The 48-year-old woman and her lawyer Gloria Allred, held a news conference Wednesday announcing the lawsuit and their intentions.
"I am not 'Miss Daisy' as I have been referred to in the press," Meyer spoke. "I was not and never have been his mistress, nor was I the cause of his marital breakup."
The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi Delta Division. The car accident took place August 3 while Freeman was driving Meyer's car to his property in Charleston, where the actor had agreed to let Meyer stay, so that she “would have an easier drive to work the next morning.”
"He was a perfect gentleman and I accepted his offer," said Meyer who suffered short-term memory loss, a broken left wrist, right scapula and a torn labrum after the car rolled over three times before it stopped.
“The accident and its aftermath has literally changed my life in every respect,” Meyer said. “I sustained numerous injuries. I was unconscious following the accident … I could not take care of myself for several months. I have not been able to go back to work and still am suffering both physically and emotionally as a result of the accident.”
According to People, the lawsuit asks for an amount greater than $75,000 to cover medical expenses and her permanent disability, among other things.
Ken Sunshine, a spokesman for Freeman said "We are confident this will all be resolved. We have no further comment on the current litigation."
