Jamie Lynn It's All Your Fault
Actually it happened before she got pregnant but it shows the way society is trending, maybe that means she's not so out of the ordinary. For the first time in 15 years, the National Institute of Health is reporting an increase in teen pregnancies, with the latest figures showing nearly 139,000 girls aged 15-17 became pregnant in 2006. That’s up from 133,000 reported pregnancies in 2005.
Ancil Overbey, who oversees the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Gastonia, says the facility has seen a 42 percent increase in the number of pregnancy tests and a 28 percent rise in ultrasounds.Talking about a teenage girl's pregnancy it is said, “Being a teen, she's going to have potentially low birth weight for the child, which puts the child at risk; the potential for the child having health issues; the concern for infant mortality death goes up if she's a teenager,” listed Overbey, who partially blames the media for the increase, pointing to the latest cover of Ok! Magazine as an example. The issue features a smiling Jamie Lynn Spears holding her newborn daughter with a quote that reads, “Being a mom is the best feeling in the world.” Recent reports have also surfaced about a pregnancy pact in Massachusetts involving 17 young girls. “You wonder what in the world is going on in America,” said Overbey.
These girls are in middle school. With the Miley Cyrus' and Jamie Lynns in the media all the time and movies like Juno glorifying teen pregnancy it's hard to know what to think.SourcePhoto 1Photo 2
