Club-owner and celebrity scratCher Adam Goldstein, who was far better known by the moniker DJ AM, was found dead Friday in his New York apartment, E! News has confirmed. He was 36.

A rep for DJ AM just issued the following statement: "Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein was found deceased this afternoon in his New York City apartment. The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time."

His body was found at around 5 PM at his apartment in New York City -- he was shirtless and wearing sweatpants. He was face down.

A law enforcement source on scene tells TMZ a glass "crack pipe" was found in his bedroom. The pill bottles were found in the kitchen and bedroom.

DJ AM has been sober for nine years, but the breakup with his girlfriend -Hayley Wood- and the stress over the plane crash could have caused him to start using drugs again.

DJ AM was supposed to play a show tonight at Rain Nightclub at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas -- the owner of the Palms, George Maloof, just released a statement.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of DJ AM. He was our resident DJ at Rain Nightclub at the Palms Casino Resort. We considered him a friend and a great artist. He will truly be missed"
