Amy Dumas Biography

Amy Christine Dumas is a professional wrestler with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) who is better known by her ring name of Lita. She has also gone by the ring names Angelica and Miss Congeniality. In a prodominently male oriented sport she has found fame along with Chyna, Candice Michelle, Christy Hemme,Trish Stratus, Torrie Wilson and Ashley Massaro.The five-foot-six wrestler was born on April 14, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.Throughout her teen years she went to many different schools, yet managed to finish high school six months before the official graduation. She became an excellent swimmer, studied judo (which she later practiced competitively), took three years of Spanish, and played bass guitar for a band called 3 Card Trick.Amy became interested in wrestling after watching Mexican, Rey Misterio Jr. wrestle in an episode of World Championship Wrestling's WCW Monday Nitro. She traveled to Mexico to learn more about the sport and trained under wrestlers Kevin Quinn, Miguel Perez, and Ricky Santana.She returned the States and got a job as a female manager (valet) under the ring name Angelica. In 1999 Paul Heyman, the owner and booker of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), approached her. Amy debuted in ECW as Miss Congeniality, the on-screen girlfriend of Dastardly Danny Doring.Later that year veteran wrestler Dory Funk Jr. invited her to attend his wrestling school, the Funkin Conservatory where she studied the art of wrestling with twenty-three men. She graduated from the school in August of 1999, made her final appearance with the EWC on October 23, 1999, and signed on with the WWF on November 1, 1999, as Lita. The same year she also had breast augmentation surgery.In 2000 Amy, now known as Lita, held the Women's WWF Championship for seventy-three days after defeating many challengers, including Ivory (Lisa Moretti). She later lost her title to Ivory who defeated her in a four-way match on November 2, 2000.In 2002, Amy suffered three cracks in her C5 and C6 vertebrae while filming a fight scene on April 6 for the season finale of the television program, Dark Angel. She required neck surgery, where a section of her hip was used to fuse her C5 and C6 vertebrae together.She spent a year rehabilitating and returned to wrestling in 2003. In 2003 she also put her love of animals to use by founding the animal charity Amy Dumas Operation Rescue and Education (A D O R E).In 2004 she once again won the Women's Championship, but lost it to Trish Stratus at the New Year's Revolution on January 9, 2005. During the fight, she tore a major ligament in her left knee that needed to be fixed by surgery. On August 14, 2006, Amy's wrestling character Lita won her third Women's Championship.From 2000 to 2005 Amy was in a relationship with fellow wrestler, Matt Hardy. The relationship ended in February of 2005, when Hardy found out that Amy was cheating with his close friend, another WWE wrestler, Adam Edge Copeland all of whom have wrestled for WWE which is owned by Vince McMahon.Besides wrestling Amy is also the lead singer of the punk rock band The Luchagors. She has also tried her hand at acting, appearing in the reality show Fear Factor in 2002; on the WWF Superstar Edition of the game show, The Weakest Link; and on the television shows Dark Angel in 2003 and Headbangers Ball in 2004.
