Lance BassMississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Lance Bass is the former bass singer of the American pop group 'N Sync. Besides being a teenage girl heartthrob in the boy band that was active from 1995 to 2002, he made headlines in the summer of 2002 for his attempt to become the first space tourist on a Russian spaceflight. In 2006 he shocked his family and some of his friends and fans by revealing that he's gay.Bass was born as James Lance Bass on May 4, 1979, in Clinton, Mississippi, and has been known to go by the nicknames Lansten, Scoop (because, in his words, when they [the 'N Sync guys] ask me about our itinerary, I always know. ), and Princess Frostylocks.He began his musical career in the seventh grade when he was a member of the Clinton Community Choir, where he sang very well and excelled academically at his favorite subjects, math and science. When he was twelve he joined the Mississippi Show Stoppers, a statewide choir funded by the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum.In 1995 Bass became the fifth and final band member of 'N Sync even though he did not formally audition for the band. He was found by Justin Timberlake through his singing coach and replaced a departing member named Jason. Bass soon changed his name to Lanceton for the band so that they could keep the band name which is made up of the last letter of each member's first names: Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lanceton Bass , and JC Chavez.Bass began acting in 2000 when he landed a small role as a flight engineer on a plane in Longshot, a movie that also had appearances by Britney Spears, The Rock, and fellow band members Justin Timberlake and Joey Fatone. In 2001 Bass starred as Kevin in the romantic comedy On the Line. The movie had a production budget of $16 million, but only grossed $4.3 million at the box office.In the 2002 video game Kingdom of Hearts, Bass narrated the voice of the antagonist character Sephiroth. When Kingdom of Hearts 2 was released in 2005 Bass was not invited to return to provide the voice of Sephiroth, and the role went to actor George Newbern.Bass has also had voice acting guest spots on the children's television series Higglytown Heroes, and the animated TV series Kim Possible and Robot Chicken.In 2006 Bass teamed up with former band mate Fatone on sitcom pilot inspired by the 1965 Broadway play by Neil Simon, The Odd Couple. Bass character will be gay.Bass recently ended a relationship with Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl, but was once romantically linked to Danielle Fishel of TV's Boy Meets World several years ago.
