Yolonda Lisa is a self-contained artist who writes her own music. She does her own lead and background vocals on her recordings. On her 1999 debut release, A Journey Into Sound…, which is a two-disc compilation, she composed all of the music tracks. The album has been described as a smooth yet exciting musical journey. Lisa has worked with Pieces of a Dream and has opened for some impressive acts which include Tyreese, Silk, Midnight Star, Club Nuveau, Yo Yo, and 2Pac. Some of the venues that she has appeared at range from the historic Valley Dale Ballroom in Columbus, OH, to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. A highlight in Lisa’s professional career came when she appeared on the nationally syndicated television special, The Gospel Explosion. The show was narrated by MC Hammer and featured Take 6, Fred Hammond, and Kirk Franklin. Her musical style reflects influences such as Loose Ends, Sade, Chico Debarge, and Paul Hardcastle. She has been compared vocally to Phyllis Hyman and Maysa Leaks of Incognito. The debut album received positive reviews internationally, being promoted in Asia and South America, as well as strong promotion being focused on the regional scene. Lisa has the creative ability to go from a smooth jazz groove into a R&B dance tune with the ease of a master entertainer twice her age.
