Peter Fawthrop Biography

I was born in 1977 in Schenectady, New York. My family including 3 brothers and 2 sisters moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when I was 7. I developed a love for film and music at an early age because of my father who brought me to the cinema every week and my brothers who sang and played electric guitar. While they loved classic, hard rock and heavy metal, I was drawn to pop music and was not afraid to embrace the “cheese” side of the music industry- after all, I grew up in the 80s. Because my school teachers encouraged me to be a writer I decided to use my writing skills to write about what I loved. In high school I began submitting film reviews for the city newspaper and took a journalism class during my senior year. I wrote several film reviews for the school newspaper and won 2 Scholastic Press awards for them as well as a 1st place “Lighthouse” award from the Albuquerque Tribune. Following high school I decided to travel as well as earn a degree. I attended college in Illinois for a year, film school at SUNY Purchase College for a year, a semester of study in London and graduated (on-time) from Palm Beach Atlantic College in May 1999 with a B.A. in Communication and a minor in Sociology. My career goals are to write and illustrate childrens’ books and novels, act, and direct musicals for film. I am currently seeking jobs in New York in a film related business. I could never be a music critic because I am too biased in styles of music. However, I am obsessed with particular pop artists and know their work inside-out which makes me confident in writing reviews for these artists. My favorite All-Music guide reviewer is Steven Thomas Erlewine, who I often agree with and appreciate his insights even when I do not.
