Darryl Cater works for CBS News Radio in Chicago as Assistant Producer. He is also a freelance writer and reporter. From 1993 to 1995 he served as General Manager of WCAL, an eclectic modern rock/alternative radio station based at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan (from which he holds a degree in Telecommunications and Theater). As an AMG critic, his specialties include contemporary folk, film music and rock. Darryl’s Desert Island Choices have been all but restricted to 1990s albums by overzealous Island Border Police who — noticing that all the other desert islands have been packed to the gills with indisputably brilliant folks like the Beatles, Bob Dylan, JS Bach, Louis Armstrong, W.A. Mozart, Dave Brubeck, and Sinatra — feel strongly that even desert islands are more interesting when infused with a little variety. Hence, they are more intrigued by the question “which recent albums would you choose…?” A couple of dearly beloved oldies did, however, slip beneath their sensors. Desert Island Picks Joni Mithell Blue Nick Drake Pink Moon The Beatles Abbey Road, The White Album, Rubber Soul Crowded House Woodface and Together Alone Paul Simon Rythym of the Saints Luka Bloom Turf Jeff Buckley Grace Radiohead OK Computer Over The Rhine Eve or Good Dog Bad Dog Sara McLachlan Solace and Fumbling Towards Ecstacy San Phillips Martinis and Bikinis The Innocence Mission Glow, All Music Guide
