Helicon Biography

Helicon Photo

Experimental rock band from Mexico Helicon was formed in the early ’80s by guitarist Exequiel Solis, drummer Juan Blend, and guitarist Francisco Delahay, playing as a trio until 1985 when Delahay left. By that time, keyboardist Swanny Canseco and bassist Fanny Santos joined the act temporarily. Initially identified as a progressive rock band, Helicon’s music was moving into different styles, sometimes getting closer to alternative pop/rock. Soon after joining the group, Osvaldo de León and Helicon’s founder Juan Blend decided to leave to form a new band called la Castañeda. Later, Exequiel Solis was involved in a new project inspired by British gothic rock, releasing Lejos Del Paraíso. By the end of the 1990s, Helicon recorded Sitios Ocultos.
