Composer of several hits of the Golden Era of Brazilian song, Gade was recorded by some of the greatest names of that period. With Valfrido Silva, he wrote many songs in the samba-choro style, becoming acknowledged for public interest in the style. In 1923 Gade was already a good piano player. The following year he was employed by the Brazilian Lloyd as an orchestral pianist, working extensively in cruise ships. In 1926 he left Lloyd and worked for the Rádio companies Sociedade do Rio de Janeiro, Ipanema, Clube, Mayrink Veiga, Tupi, Nacional, and Inconfidência Mineira. In 1932, Francisco Alves recorded “Vai Cavar a Nota” (with Valfrido Silva). The following year Jaime Vogeler recorded “Escuta Aqui” (with Valfrido Silva). Among his songs (many of them with Valfrido Silva) some deserve special mention, such as the following: in 1935, Joel e Gaúcho recorded “Estão Batendo,” and Almirante recorded “Vou Me Casar no Uruguai” and “Que Barulho é Esse?” In 1936, Aurora Miranda recorded “Fiz Castelos de Amor,” Almirante recorded “Amor em Excesso” (the first samba-choro hit of the duo), Odete Amaral recorded “Quem é Que Paga a Gasolina?,” and Carmen Miranda recorded “Roseira Branca,” “Polichinelo,” and “Honrando um Nome de Mulher.” Gade also recorded a solo album through Musidisc, Gafieira, with Valfrido Silva (drums).
