Cuban-born Ñico Rojas became a self-taught musician in the early ’70s while playing different Latin percussion instruments and finally assembling his first rock band, called Moonlight. After moving to Florida, Miami Brass allowed him to participate in studio sessions for the first time. In California, Rojas joined the Hellman Brothers before forming his first tropical band, called La Moderna. In 1984, his first solo album was released. In 1993, Rojas settled in Puerto Rico, moving back to the U.S. in 2001 to make his next record, titled Romantico Como Nunca.
