A choir director and composer, Arkhangel’sky brought out the best in his performers, yielding a chorus that was in great demand. Well-versed in Russian church music the repertoire of his company was extensive. Not only did Arkhangel’sky compose masses, a requiem and a number of accapella choral works, he also arranged Russian folk melodies and sacred works for the choir, and, made an attempt to restructure some of the elements of Russian church music.
