Veronica Verekova Biography

This Czech supermodel has definitely showed the world that she has the poise, beauty, and persistence necessary to make it in the fashion world. But, in Veronica's case, appearances can be deceiving. She is not the stereotypical model. Verekova is highly educated and has university degrees in both psychology and education. She is also impressively fluent in three languages.Veronica Verekova was born on June 1, 1977, in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia. At the young age of nineteen, she left her home and moved to New York City. She originally planned to study at the Parsons School of Design, but changed her mind and opted to become a model instead. She was soon signed by Next Model Management, the agency that has helped launch the careers of Nigerian model Agbani Darego, Ukrainian supermodel Milla Jovovich and fellow Czech model Petra Nemcova, among others. After spending some time in the United States to pursue modeling, she moved to Europe, where she found more opportunities.During her career, she has worked with a number of high profile publications and products. Verekova has appeared in the popular Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition an amazing six times. Her most recent appearance was in the 2005 edition, and she earned the coveted cover spot in 2004. She also appears regularly in Victoria's Secret, which specializes in lingerie and other women's apparel. Other magazines which have featured the Czech beauty on their covers include Marie Claire, Harpers Queen, and Cosmopolitan.Veronica is the spokesperson for a number of popular brands and products. She has secured contracts with skin care line NIVEA, clothing line Guess?, fashion industry icon Chanel, and hair care line Pantene. She has appeared on several late night talk shows including those hosted by Jay Leno and Craig Kilborn.Verekova was named by Maxim, the popular men's magazine, as number #32 on their Hot 100 List. It seems, however, that the model is not a huge fan of the publication. The 2006 June issue of the popular publication featured a lingerie-clad Veronica on its cover. Apparently, the photo was taken during a photo shoot for Victoria's Secret, and then sold by the photo agency without Veronica's permission or knowledge. She questioned the magazine's right to include the photo without her knowledge, and was also upset with what she viewed as the inappropriateness of the photo for that particular magazine's cover.In 2004, Veronica married fellow Czech Petr Nedved. Nedved is a professional hockey player for the Edmonton Oilers. The marriage, however, did not last, ending in separation in the summer of 2006. It is not clear whether there is another man in the model's life at this point, but with her legions of male admirers, it shouldn t be too long until Veronica finds a lucky man to take Petr's envied place.
