Heather Mills McCartneyIt could never be said that Heather Mills McCartney hasn t led a full life. Beginning with a troubling childhood and adolescence, she became a model, survived a horrific traffic accident, and married an ex-Beatle. She's always been very active in promoting herself, leaving herself wide open to the attention of the British tabloid newspapers.Heather Mills McCartney was born in January of 1968, in the North East of England. Heather has spoken of the break up of her family as a result of her father's violence and her mother abandoning the family. There was not enough food, and Heather stole to feed herself and her siblings. Heather was reconciled with her mother when they lived together again after her father was imprisoned for fraud. As a young teenager, Heather went through a period of living rough on the streets when she clashed with her mother's boyfriend. She befriended the owner of a shop, going on to steal jewelry from him, which led to an arrest and probation.Heather Mills McCartney took up glamour modeling, a career that was going well until fate intervened in 1993. Attempting to cross the road, she was struck down by a police motorcyclist who was on his way to an incident, he was sounding his two tone horns and flashing his blue lights at the time. Her left leg below the knee was thrown across the street. The surgeons were unable to re-attach the leg, and Heather was left an amputee. Her personality did not allow her to wallow in self-pity, however, and she demanded payment from newspapers that wanted her story. Heather wrote a book about her experience, and campaigned for prosthetic limbs, that were no longer needed, to be sent abroad for use there.Heather Mills McCartney achieved a new level of fame because of her accident and her charity work; but in 1999, a new phase of her life began, which brought her to the attention of the world. She met and started dating Paul McCartney, widower of Linda McCartney. They married in 2002, in a fairytale wedding in the grounds of a castle in Ireland. The birth of their daughter, Beatrice Milly, followed in 2003.The media attention was immense, leading to many TV appearances for her such as the Larry King Show, when a discussion on dog and cat fur took place with fellow guest Alec Baldwin. The McCartney's have taken their concerns over this industry to British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Their anti-fur campaign has involved appealing to celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Linda Evangelista to discontinue their endorsements of fur products.Sadly, the separation of Heather and Paul McCartney was announced in May of 2006. The media has always challenged Heather Mills McCartney's version of events, accusing her of seeking publicity, manipulating the facts of her past, and marrying Paul McCartney for his money.Constant stories of rifts with Paul's daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney often appeared in the media. Now, the gloves are really off, as the press is running stories about unsavory connections with prominent figures such as the arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi, and pornographic photo shoots. Heather has strongly denied the allegations and said she will sue the tabloid that led the story, the News Of The World, which is owned by tycoon Rupert Murdoch.The future then, is uncertain for Heather Mills McCartney. Her new book on the subject of contentment, written with her friend Ben Noakes, has just been published.Heather is known by the public for her Jekyll and Hyde. She has certainly devoted time and energy to many charitable causes, namely Adopt A-Minefield, the anti-fur movement, help for amputees, and the anti-seal hunt campaign. As more stories unfold from her past, her image is becoming more and more tarnished.In early 2007 Heather took part in the American dance competition, Dancing With the Stars and clawed her way back into the affections of the public with her brave attempts at dancing even though she has a prosthetic leg. However, in May 2007 she was finally voted off the show after having fallen a couple of weeks before while performing the Tango.
