Elijah Wood We know this young American actor best as the brave and heroic hobbit Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, Elijah Wood has tried on many other, less sympathetic faces in the world of acting, including that of a stalker in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and a mute serial-killing cannibal in Sin City.Elijah Wood, born on January 28, 1981, in Iowa, to Warren and Debbie Wood, dabbled in plays, modeling, TV commercials and a small video with singer Paula Abdul before landing his film debut with a minor role in Back to the Future II in 1989, when he was only eight years old. This led to a succession of larger, more notable roles, and he soon became a famous and world-renowned child actor. The first of these roles was as the son of actor Aidan Quinn's character in the 1990 film Avalon, by director and producer Barry Levinson. The popular film garnered four Academy Award nominations. The following year Elijah Wood secured a leading role in Paradise, co-starring Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, and went on to co-star brilliantly in a very memorable performance alongside Mel Gibson and Jamie Lee Curtis in Forever Young in 1992.As Elijah evolved from child star to young accomplished actor, he acted in several films some more successful than others including The Good Son, with Macaulay Culkin and The Adventures of Huck Finn, both in 1993; The War, with Kevin Costner in 1994, which gained Elijah Wood a nomination by the Young Star Awards; The Ice Storm in 1997; and Deep Impact and The Faculty in 1998.His portrayal of Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's wildly successful Lord of the Rings trilogy is what put him on top of his career. He starred alongside actors Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Sean Astin, and many others. After the third installment of The Lord of the Rings (The Return of the King) in 2003, Elijah went off to play a stalker-lab technician in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 2004, which starred Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. After that came a very chilling and eerie role in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City in 2005. He took a significant turn away from his earlier works to portray a mute cannibalistic serial killer, opposite Mickey Rourke.Elijah has worked on several projects since, including filming for Bobby, Emilio Estevez's film starring Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Christian Slater, Nick Cannon, and Lindsay Lohan, due for release at the end of 2006.Elijah Wood is also known for keeping his personal and romantic lives hidden from the media as much as he can.
